India and Iran sign tax treaty

India and Iran today signed a new tax treaty in New Dehli, India’s Central Board of Direct Taxes has announced.

According to the Indian government, the new treaty meets minimum standards to prevent tax treaty shopping and misuse of tax treaties set out in the 2015 OECD/G20 base erosion profit shifting (BEPS) plan agreements.

The agreement also calls for the exchange of information and thus is designed to curb tax evasion and avoidance.

The new India-Iran tax agreement must be ratified by the two governments before it enters into effect.
