G7 ministers pledge to resume work on taxation of digital economy once pandemic’s impact recedes

G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank governors met virtually on April 14.

According to the Chair’s summary released after the meeting, the ministers agreed to resume their work to reach an agreement on new rules for taxing the digital economy once the coronavirus emergency diminishes.

“Once the immediate impacts of the crisis abate, Ministers will return to other priority agenda items, such as . . . addressing tax challenges resulting from the digitalization of the economy,” the Chair said. The US currently chairs the group.
