Former Microsoft tax counsel Mike Bernard joins Vertex

Vertex, a provider of tax technology solutions for corporations, has announced that Mike Bernard has joined the company as its new Chief Tax Officer. Bernard will replace Peggi Rockefeller, who is retiring.

Bernard is former US Tax Counsel with Microsoft, where he worked for over 28 years. His expertise includes corporate tax, administration, and finance. He has a substantive knowledge of US and international tax laws.

In his new role in Vertex’s Chief Tax Office, Bernard will provide insight regarding the impact of tax regulations, policy, enforcement, and emerging technology trends on global tax department operations. Vertex’s Chief Tax Office is comprised of former tax executives from Fortune 500 multinationals who use their in-house tax and industry expertise to provide solutions for Vertex customers.

“I am honored to succeed Peggi and look forward to working with the Vertex team to drive long-term value for clients,” said Bernard in a statement.  “I believe that the company is well-positioned to take advantage of significant opportunities ahead as a leader in tax technology as we anticipate the implications of regulatory reform, as well as the affects and complexities of indirect tax management on multinational enterprises,” he said.

“I know Mike will be a great addition to the Chief Tax Office and his unique background will enable him to champion the critical tax needs for our customers and partners,” Rockefeller said.
