First Look: OECD holds consultation on digitalization of the economy

The OECD held a public hearing today and yesterday on possible solutions to the tax challenges arising from the digitization of the economy.

This is a part of the ongoing work of a 129-country coalition known as the “Inclusive Framework on BEPS” and its task force on the digital economy (TFDE). The Framework aims to reach consensus on new international tax rules for allocating multinational group profits (and the right to tax those profits) between countries by the end of 2020.

Over 400 attended the OECD meeting in Paris, revealing the importance of the topic and dollar amounts involved.

A wide range of views were expressed, many of them surprising.

MNE Tax expects to publish an in-depth report on the proceeding shortly. In the meantime, you can access the video recordings of the proceedings here.
