Australian Taxation Office warns on offshore marketing hubs

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on July 8 announced that it is developing a practical guide to help taxpayers self-assess their transfer-pricing activity in respect to related party offshore marketing hubs.

The ATO says it is concerned that the amount charged by marketing hubs to Australian taxpayers is not arm’s length. The ATO will launch a consultation in August, to develop and issue the guide.

The goal is to provide practical information for taxpayers, including framing questions and quantitative indicators (‘risk flags’) that taxpayers should consider when assessing their level of compliance risk.
