Japan, Uruguay agree in principle to tax treaty

The Japanese and Uruguay governments have agreed in principle on a tax treaty, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

The ministry said the treaty would clarify the scope of taxation in the two countries, eliminate international double taxation, prevent tax evasion and avoidance, and enhance mutual investments and economic exchanges between the two countries.

Negotiations for the treaty commenced on April 9.
