International tax lawyer Paulus Merks joins Netherlands-based Houthoff

Houthoff’s is undertaking a major expansion of its Netherlands tax advisory practice and has welcomed international tax specialist Paulus Merks as a new addition to the firm as of January 1.

Merks, formerly with DLA Piper, advises on M&A transactions, restructurings, reorganizations, public offerings and transfer pricing. He also litigates tax disputes and advises US and other non-Dutch companies on how to structure worldwide operations and acquisitions.  He has degrees in both Dutch and US law.

Houthoff expects to double its tax team by year end, hiring about 15 more advisors in all areas of tax law.

“Adding these new faces means a stronger market position for our tax team. With specialists in every discipline of tax law, we can further improve our services to our clients,” said Edward de Bock, managing partner at Houthoff.
