Hong Kong-New Zealand tax treaty protocol enters into force

A tax treaty protocol signed by the New Zealand and Hong Kong governments has entered into force, New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department announced today.

The protocol, signed on June 28, 2017, update the two countries’ 2010 tax treaty, extending the treaty’s exchange of information provisions and allowing for automatic exchange of information between the two countries.

The revisions will improve New Zealand’s ability to detect and prevent tax evasion and will encourage ties between New Zealand and Hong Kong, said New Zealand Revenue Minister Stuart Nash.
