IRS attorney-advisor Ryan Kelly joins Alston & Bird

Ryan J. Kelly has joined Alston & Bird’s Washington, DC federal and international tax group as a partner, the firm announced April 5.

Kelly is a former attorney-advisor in the Office of Associate Chief Counsel (International) where he advised members of the IRS’s Large Business & International Division on international tax and transfer pricing issues.

“With the passage of U.S. tax reform in 2017, we are at the beginning of a major reset in cross-border tax planning and how tax authorities pursue tax enforcement,” said Henry Birnkrant, Alston & Bird partner and co-chair of the firm’s Tax Practice and leader of the Transfer Pricing Team.

“Ryan’s deep global tax knowledge and in-the-trenches experience with multibillion-dollar transfer pricing matters and other complex cross-border transactions will be a boost to clients seeking to optimize near-term decisions and lay the groundwork for longer-term planning,”  Birnkrant said.

Kelly is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. He previously worked for Baker McKenzie.
