US government seeks public feedback to aid in prioritizing its tax guidance work

The US government has requested advice from the public by June 15 on which areas of the tax law are most in need of clarifying guidance.

In Notice 2018-43, the IRS and Department of the Treasury state that recommendations are sought on what items should be included in the government’s 2018-2019 Priority Guidance Plan.

The plan is issued each year listing the regulations, revenue rulings, revenue procedures, notices, and other administrative guidance the government intends to prioritize from July 1 until June 30 the following year.

The government has been focusing its tax guidance efforts on implementing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, enacted late last year, and expects to continue to do so in during the coming period, the notice said. As a result, many projects on the 2017-2018 Priority Guidance Plan will carry over to the 2018-2019 Priority Guidance Plan, the government said.

Notice 2018-43 will be published in the May 14 edition of the Internal Revenue Bulletin.
