US, Armenia FATCA agreement enters into force

US Treasury has announced on its website that a Model 2 FATCA intergovernmental agreement (IGA) signed by the US and Armenia entered into force as of July 7.

Under a Model 2 IGA, Armenian financial institutions must report information about US taxpayers directly to the IRS.

Armenia has been treated as if it had an IGA in effect since June 30, 2014.

The FATCA scheme was enacted by the US in 2010 to target tax evasion by US taxpayers using foreign accounts.
