Peter Blessing to head IRS office of Chief Counsel International

The US IRS announced April 25 that Peter Blessing will take over the role of as Chief Counsel, International in the Office of Chief Counsel.

Blessing was with KPMG’s complex transactions group for more than six years. Before that he was a tax partner at Shearman & Sterling LLP for more than 25 years.

“We are very fortunate to attract an individual of his caliber and expertise,” commented Michael Desmond, IRS Chief Counsel.

Desmond said that Blessing would bring deep and wide-ranging technical expertise and strong leadership qualities to the Office of Chief Counsel.

His responsibilities will include for coordinating and directing all activities of the international organizational component of the Office of Chief Counsel. That office provides legal advisory services on all international and foreign tax matters.
