Luxembourg, Uzbekistan sign tax treaty protocol

Luxembourg and Uzbekistan government officials have signed a tax treaty protocol,  Luxembourg’s Ministry of Finance has announced.

The protocol, signed September 18, would amend the countries’ 1997 treaty, providing for exchange of information in line with international tax standards.

The protocol also adds provisions to prevent tax treaty shopping consistent with the OECD/G20 base erosion profit shifting plan and provides for assistance in the recovery of taxes.

Luxembourg’s Ministry of Finance said the protocol was signed with a view of removing Luxembourg from Uzbekistan’s list of countries that do not provide for exchange of information or that grant companies preferential tax treatment.
