The Trump administration has selected David Kautter as the next US assistant secretary for tax policy, a post critical for moving forward the US tax reform agenda, Poltico has reported.
Kautter, a partner and leader of RSM’s Washington National Tax group, would succeed Mark Mazur, who left to head the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center in 2016.
Kautter is former Managing Director at American University’s Kogod Tax Center and, before that, served as Ernst & Young’s Director of National Tax.
The Office of Tax Policy’s duties include assisting the US Treasury Secretary develop and implement tax policy, estimating government receipts for the President’s budget, establishing policy for IRS tax regulations and other guidance, negotiating tax treaties, and representing the US before the OECD and other bodies involved with international tax policy.
