The Indian government is planning to launch its new e-filing taxpayer portal on June 7, the Finance Ministry announced on May 20.
The portal will be user-friendly and will allow for quicker processing of income tax returns and the issuance of speedier refunds, it said.
In preparation for this launch, the existing tax portal will not be available to taxpayers from June 1-6, the Finance Ministry said.
To avoid any inconvenience to taxpayers, the government won’t schedule any compliance dates during this period. The hearing of cases will only be scheduled from June 10 and after to give taxpayers time to get used to the new system.
Taxpayers are encouraged to complete all their urgent tasks involving any submission, uploads or downloads before June 1 to avoid difficulties during the blackout period, the ministry said.
