Cormann takes over at OECD, says global tax deal likely

Mathias Cormann took office June 1 as the sixth Secretary-General of the OECD.

Outgoing Secretary-General Angel Gurría welcomed Cormann during an OECD ministerial level meeting in Paris.

Cormann, who was Australia’s Finance Minister from 2013–2020, will serve a five-year term.

The new Secretary-General said he is “quietly optimistic” about the odds of achieving an international deal on taxing multinational groups, according to the Associated Press. According to Cormann, US President Biden’s recent global tax proposal is a “game changer.”
