Sophie Chatel has been appointed Head of the Tax Treaty Unit in the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, the OECD announced today.
Chatel, who will take up her duties on September 6, has been with Canada’s Department of Finance since 2008, most recently as Associate Chief – Tax Treaties and International Tax.
She has also worked at the Canada Revenue Agency as Director, International Tax, Financial Sector and GST Division, where she supervised the resolution of Canadian tax disputes with multinational enterprises.
This experience followed six years working as a tax adviser in the private sector.
Chatel, a lawyer, holds a masters degree in tax and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants. She has also been a participant in the work of the OECD, the UN Committee of Experts on International Taxation, and has worked with the IMF and the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT).
The OECD’s announcement today follows the June 22 announcement that Tomas Balco will take over as Head of the Transfer Pricing Unit in the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration.
