Walter Nagel takes over as Gannett’s new tax chief

Walter Nagel has joined publisher Gannett as its vice president and chief tax officer, leaving Crowell & Moring.

In his new position, Nagel is responsible for the Virgina-based media giant’s US and international tax policy, tax compliance, tax planning, tax controversy, and tax accounting.

Nagel was a partner with Crowell & Moring for just over three years and was with Reed Smith for two years before that.

He was also an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center from 2011–2015 and chairman of the board of the Hispanic College Fund from 2009–2013 .
