New Zealand details new law extending goods and services tax to cross-border services

New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department on May 17 published a special report providing information on a new law that will impose the goods and services tax (GST) on supplies by non-residents of services and other intangibles, such as music, videos, and software.

The new law, which received Royal assent on May 13, applies to transactions occurring after October 1.

Under the new law, the GST will apply to non-residents that expect to supply more than NZ$60,000 (USD 40,747) in a 12-month period.
