Mauritius and Austria sign TIEA

Mauritius and Austria have signed a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) according to a release posted on a Mauritius government website March 13. The agreement was signed by Austrian ambassador Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshofer and Mauritian Finance Minister Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo.

“There is great potential for exchange of business based on already strong relations with Austria which are now getting stronger. The TIEA is our commitment towards transparency and we have signed double taxation avoidance agreements with 46 countries up to now. We have also signed forty investment promotion and protection agreements and now, Mrs Oppinger has signed the tenth tax information exchange agreement,” stated Lutchmeenaraidoo.

Lutchmeenaraidoo added that there have been misconceptions regarding Mauritius’ status as a tax haven, which has adversely impacted the country’s offshore service centers.
