Japan, Panama tax information exchange agreement to enter into force

A tax information exchange agreement between Japan and Panama, signed August 25, 2016, will enter into force on March 12, Japan’s Ministry of Finance has announced.

The Ministry reported that notification procedures for the entry into force of the tax exchange agreement were completed on February 10.

Thus, the agreement will have effect for criminal tax matters from March 12, 2017, the Ministry said. For other matters, the agreement will have effect for taxes levied during taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2013, or for taxes levied after that date, if not levied on the basis of a taxable year.
