Jamaica, Uruguay sign international tax cooperation agreement, Brazil deposits instruments of ratification 

Jamaica and Uruguay, on June 1, signed the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters, becoming the 95th and 96th jurisdictions to join the Convention, the OECD has announced. Brazil deposited instruments of ratification of the Convention that same date.

The Convention was developed by the OECD and the Council of Europe to combat offshore tax evasion and avoidance through international cooperation.

The agreement provides for exchange of information among tax authorities, simultaneous tax examinations, tax examinations abroad, assistance in tax recovery and measures of conservancy, and the service of documents. It can also facilitate joint audits.
