EU Commission seeks public input on cooperation to prevent cross-border VAT fraud

The EU Commission today opened a public consultation to gather views on the functioning of administrative cooperation regarding value added tax (VAT) and regarding the fight against cross-border VAT fraud.

The Commission aims to update the VAT rules to counteract large EU losses from VAT fraud.

The consultation, which will run until May 31, solicits stakeholder feedback not only from tax administrations but also from business and citizens.

The consultation follows up on the Commission’s April 7, 2016  Action Plan on VAT seeking to modernize the European VAT system for cross-border supplies
