Australia announces intent to begin tax treaty negotiations with Israel

Australia’s Treasurer Joe Hockey on September 17 announced that Australia intends to commence tax treaty negotiations with Israel.

A treaty is needed to reduce the incidence of double taxation, provide tax certainty for business, and enhance the integrity of both countries’ tax systems, Hockey said in a statement.

He also said that a tax treaty would encourage Israeli companies to use Australia as a regional base and as a supplier of sophisticated goods and services.
